CREATE AN OUTDOOR SCULPTURE
Andrew Goldsworthy is a British artist who creates unique works of art in the environment using all natural objects such as pebbles, twigs, branches, pine cones, mud, leaves and petals. Much of his work is meant to be temporary. He takes pictures of his work and then allows it to remain in the natural environment and decay over time. Sometimes he photographs the same work in different conditions. Goldsworthy says he “works with nature as a whole” and doesn’t use man-made tools to produce his artwork. COLLECT MATERIALS
Collect a variety of interesting natural materials such as leaves, twigs, pinecones, berries, rocks and grasses. Consider the shape, color and texture of the materials.
ASSEMBLE YOUR SCULPTURE
Find an outdoor location around your home to assemble your sculpture. Experiment! Create a pattern with your materials, arrange them by color, shape or size.
PHOTOGRAPH YOUR WORK
Use a camera to photograph your artwork. In the days that follow, go outside and look at how your sculpture has changed.
